July 24-27

Another great fishing trip has come and gone here at Sund’s Lodge. The Katz family from Ontario joined us along with Louie and Dave Canavan from New York, and Erich Armbruster came for the second time this season with his colleagues David and Jim. Jon, Ryan and Jim Ribary also came to do some fishin’ with us. Once again the fishing was unreal. Bottom fishing was really hot with a few large hali’s and some nice lingcod coming into the dock. Dan Katz brought in this trip’s largest hali at 58.5 lbs. It measured in at 132cm – just 1cm under the limit of 133cm. The big salmon of the trip was a 27lb chinook caught by Daniel on guide Keith’s boat. Although the weather was rainy for the first two days of the trip, the sun broke through for beach bistro and everyone got to enjoy some rays here in paradise. However – rain, wind, fog or sun; this place always seems to be beautiful. Thank you all for coming to fish with us, see you next summer! Click heading to see pictures from the trip.

July 21-25

Today we had to say goodbye to our friends Tim, Cheri, John and Colin as they head back home to get back to the grind after a nice break from reality here at Sund’s. Cheri’s son, Chase, had to leave a day early to get back to work but he boarded the plane with an extra 39lbs of salmon to take home and share with his friends. We also said goodbye to the Case family after their eighth visit here. They brought along their grandparents Barb and Rick. These guys all had a blast reelin’ in fish and spending time together out on the water. Bob and Ed Matthews also joined us this week for the eighth time and they brought along Rod and Marilyn Nelson, Alvin Carr and Bryce Taylor for their third visit here. These 7 stayed an extra day and fished all day on Friday and Saturday morning. Although they wished they could have stayed another week they had to leave because they had their limits of salmon and halibut and their arms were too sore to reel in another pink! We had a blast hosting this group of good friends. Thank you all for coming again, see you next year! Click heading to see pictures from the trip.

The fish dance worked for this past group! We hosted Doug Jacobson and his group of fathers and sons this weekend and even though they missed out on fishing the first afternoon because of wind, they still boated a ton of fish and went home with full fish boxes. Fishing has been steady with lots of pink and coho along with some really nice sized chinook and halibut. Our guides haven’t had to go too far from home to get into fish either as Paul’s and Coho Point have been producing some nice salmon just minutes away from our dock. This weekend the biggest salmon of the trip was a 31lb chinook caught by our old friend Jim Turner on Captain Jason’s boat! We are super happy that Jim brought in a tyee here at Sund’s Lodge to beat his personal record of 15lbs. Doug Jacobson brought in the biggest halibut of the trip weighing in at 48lbs on Keith’s boat. We had so much fun with this group of guys as they all came to Sund’s to spend some father-son time out fishin’. See you all next summer! Click heading to see pictures from the trip.

What a week! All of our staff are still recovering from this past trip, as we had the rowdy boys from Nevada Cement come to party with us. Tom Goodwin also joined us with his family from Idaho. Tom’s daughter-in-law Brooklyn, caught her first fish ever and now she’s hooked! This group loaded up on coho, pink, chinook…and beer. Although no tyees came into the dock, this group caught quite a few springs in the 20lb class with the biggest being 24lbs caught by Terry Cowan. Check out our facebook and instagram pages for more pictures! See you upstream.

We had so much fun with this group! Sarah, Nicole, Sally and Terrie taught the hostesses how to do the electric slide, and Phil kept everyone entertained at dinner with his jokes. The fishing continued to be hot and this group ended up bringing home 975 lbs of fish. They almost drank our whole wine cellar too! Thank you all for coming and fishing with us – see you next year! July 6-10

This week we had a really fun group of guests join us for a 5 day trip. The Lancaster/Sargent family joined us for their 8th trip here at the lodge and Tony Rojas brought along his son and father in law. Also, Larry Hoeg brought up some of his team members from Hy-Pro for some fishin’. This group went through thick and thin to get here but nothing got them down. Their trip to Sund’s Lodge started out a little differently than most when the wildfires on the southern end of Vancouver Island caused a thick haze in the air that the float planes couldn’t fly through. This group flew from Seattle to Victoria, then bussed from Victoria to Port McNeill. So, instead of arriving at the lodge Monday afternoon, they arrived late Monday evening. After a full day of traveling and no fishing this group was eager to get on the water and start reelin’ in some fish, and that is exactly what they did. These guys absolutely slayed the fish the whole trip. 51 fish were brought onto the dock the first day of the trip, and it didn’t slow down from there. Click heading to read more.

Happy 4th of July to all our American friends! We hope you all had a fun and fishy weekend. This weekend the Russell boys all came to reunite here at Sund’s Lodge and Bill Cavender brought along his sons and grandson for their annual fishing trip. Our guides had a ton of fun out on the water with these guys as they showed us how its done. You could tell it wasn’t their first time. Halibut fishing was hot this weekend with quite a few 20lbs+ hali’s coming into the dock with the largest being 36lbs caught by Kevin Russell. The coho and pinks are just starting to come through the inside passage here so start up your BBQ’s! The chinook are also coming through steady and these boys all went home with full fish boxes. Rick Russell’s box was especially heavy as he went home with a 34lb tyee. Click to read more.

July is here! Happy belated Canada Day everyone 🙂 This past trip we had the Armbruster family join us again along with Connie and Justin Kleiman who came all the way from the San Diego area. This group loved the beautiful weather and the great fishing. The hot tub was a big hit too! We celebrated Canada day by enjoying a day on the water reeling in Salmon and Halibut, then having a delicious 4 course dinner in our Canada decorated dining room and then enjoying the beautiful sunset and watching the full moon rise. Very Canadian. Thanks for an awesome trip! Click to read more.

This past week we had a great group of both old and new friends come to stay with us. Our farmer friends Wilbur and Dave from Saskatchewan joined us for the fifth time.  Jackie and Scott Waltner, our veterinarians here at the lodge, brought a group of their good friends to join us. The fishing was awesome – this group brought in 21 halibut and 45 springs plus a few pinks and other bottom fish. A little rain did’nt get this group down either, it only made the fishing better.
