katherine

Last morning and Katherine snagged the biggest fish of the trip with Capt. Nick off the Slide.  Weighing in at 25 pounds, it also marked a full limit of chinooks for Katherine who was on her 3rd trip to Sund’s Lodge.  She did a fantastic job- congrats Katherine!

The rain holds off for 1 more day and we have a great Beach Bistro

jim-moserThe forecast was for showers but they held off until early evening which worked perfectly for our beach bistro.  Fishing remained strong for most boats as many guests recorded limits too.  The biggest fish once again was caught by Claudia- she’s on a 2 day streak!  In general, a great day on the Inside Passage.

Another fabulous day for most of the boats today.  Several boats limited on chinook and halibut and a few boats didn’t have quite so much luck.  Claudia caught the fish of the day- while dropping her herring in 300 feet of water for a halibut!  It was that kind of day for her!  Team Eiffert/Peterson loaded up on halibut with Capt. Scott and Geoff Millar’s boat had a fabulous day.  Ross Moser once again was near the top as his salmon was a quarter pound under Claudia’s for fish of the day…another great day!!

mosers-18

Our new group drove in and flew in from all parts of teh US today: Nebraska, California, Washington and Montana.  Ross Moser had the big fish of the day, but brother Zach, cousin Aaron and Uncle Jim definitely got the prize for most fish as they limited in the first 2 hours.  It was one of the best bites of the year in Double Bay for the small salmon.  A calm, warm day to start was a nice treat!

This is what team building looks like

Friday, August 7th, 2009

In an effort to build team bonding, Chef Paul Shand of Victoria BC proposed an interesting idea: August is mustache month.  And to promote team building, many of the Sund’s Lodge staff jumped on board.  Here are some of those winning team members:

Some team members started growing a mustache.  Notice how happy and enjoyable life is when you are with the team?  See, Geoff Millar even started being called Tom Selleck.  In short, life was great….with a mustache:

However, on Monday Aug. 3 something terrible happened.  On a rare night off, Geoff traveled to Port McNeil.  Instead of staying with the team, and keeping the mustache, Geoff cared more about looking cool in McNeil.  So he shaved.  He left the team.  And when he came back the next day?  He lost all his fishing power during one of the best fishing days of the summer.  Notice how sad and despondent life can be without a mustache:

The lesson?  Never forsake the team.  Always grow the mustache.

More limits on chinook and beautiful Beach Bistros

Another fantastic day on the Inside Passage.  Guests were finishing their limits by noon today on several of the boats.  Guest Sam picked up biggest halibut and biggest salmon of the day…way to go Sam.  In all it was a fantastic day.  Geoff Millar’s boat limited on chinooks and halibut too.  Locally a few fish in the high 40′s and low 50′s have been weighed in this week so we’re starting to get the itch…a real HOG is out there and should be hitting the dock soon!

Strong fishing continues off North Shore

For the seventh straight day, the boats hammered fish off the north shore of the island.  Guide Sam and his crew had an absolutely amazing day: limits of springs and halis and even got to release some nice chinooks.  Mike won top honors for big salmon with his 30 pound tyee and also caught the biggest hali of the day with his 33 pounder.  It was another mindblowing day: calm seas, warm temps, and solid fishing.

Day 1 with our new guests and Monica Lucarelli caught the big one of the day- a whopper at 4.5 pounds.  Their team loaded the boat with great action in Double Bay.  The rest of the boats worked for a hog but it didn’t happen in the few hours we fished.  Sunny skies and calm seas prevailed, making it one of the finer fishing afternoons of the summer!

Great fishing trip ends with a bang

dolty
For only a few hours fishing in the morning, the guys from NW Pipe had an amazing end…a good fishing bite that lasted until the boats headed in at 9 am.  The biggest fish was caught by Dolty with Capt. Millar and actually beat out his teammate by only 1 pound.  By the end of the trip over half of the guests had limited on chinooks with a number of guys getting the chance to release chinook salmon over 20 pounds.  It was the very best fishing of the season!

Beach Bistro, Full fish boxes, empty beer cans

A fantastic day on the water.  Roland’s boat had a liit of chinooks and halibut by 10:30 and dropped in for an hour of fishing before the beach bistro and released 2 chinooks in the 20 pound range.  The biggest fish of the trip is still Montie’s 27 pounder but the volume of 18-25 lb chinook is just awesome.  In the afternoon the whale watchers got into a nice pod of Orcas and the salmon and halibut fishers had moderate luck.  A fastastic sunrise and evening spent around the fire completed a nearly perfect day!
