WOW! Hot weather brings HOT FISHING at Sund's Lodge!

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Today was the hottest day of the year!  And though not all boats had great luck, half the fleet had limits of chinooks and one had limits of springs and halis.  Big fish of the day went to Steve Kreps who bested the rest of the crowd by 1 pound.  Team Dudds was even releasing nice chinooks after catching their limit.  That means great fishing!  A simply incredible day on the water!

First afternoon of the trip= slow fishing, sunny skies

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Not much happening on the water this afternoon but Will did manage to pick up a nice chinook at Cracroft with Capt. Millar.  Team Alsconsin (made of 1/2 Albertans, and 1/2 Wisconsins) came equipped with their own team shirts this year and were quite happy to pull this nice herring out of the ocean.  We are all very proud!  Forecast is for the hottest weather of the year upcoming…stay tuned!

Staff enjoy a rare night out with a crab feed on Malcolm Island

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Last night the staff journeyed to Lions Park to have a crab feed and relax as a team after a few weeks of hard work.  We ate some crab and even broiled some sea asparagus harvested on the beach by Heather Sund.  Good times were had by all!

Day 3 of the Family Fun Trip

Monday, July 5th, 2010

The wind picked up today and made fishing really tough- and yet we were still able to pick up some nice fish.  Lots of memories were made- including Justin’s 23 pounder which landed him the trophy for the biggest Kid Fish.  Ehren Lawhead once again took home big fish of the day honors with a 27 pounder caught with Guide Shaun at the Wall.  The Spiller Family had the best luck off Lizard point, netting out 3 morning chinooks.  Kids, while not catching fish, spent the afternoon having their faces painted, riding the Barbie Jeep, and making Tie Dye shirts.  The night festivities were capped by a slideshow, s’mores by the fire, and some imported fireworks from one of the guests.  A very nice way to end the Canada Day/4th of July holidays.

Day 2 of the Family Fun Trip!

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

A GORGEOUS day on the Inside Passage of calm seas and warm weather.  We saw the Orcas for the first time in a few weeks and the fishing was a bit tougher but all the boats had a bit of action.  Ehren Lawhead caught the big fish of the day with this beauty 26 lbr caught off Cracroft.  Matthew Grieg had some great luck on fishing and the big story of the one that got away when a seal took his fish off the line.  They battled the seal for almost half an hour (resulting in a few nasty blisters) but eventually the line broke.  On the kid side, William Grieg had an AWESOME day with a halibut, a chinook, and a pink salmon and took home the trophy for BEST KID FISHER DAY 2.

Family Trip at Sund's Lodge

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

What do you get when you add 8 kids, 10 adults and mix in some sunshine, alpacas, and friendly Sund’s servers?  The perfect mix!  The first ever Family Trip started today and the kids are having a ball.  Afternoon fishing was a bit slow so after a kids only dinner in the dining room, it was down to the beach to roast marshmellows and find crabs on the beach.  It was a fun night!

Mary Joins the Tyee Club!

Friday, July 2nd, 2010
After years of trying, writer Mary  Peachin joined the Tyee Club at Sund’s Lodge!  Trolling on the north shore of Malcolm Island, Mary’s rod bent over with a huge fish.  After a monstrous fight, the behomoth surfaced and guide Geoff Duddridge told her confidently, “Oh yeah, this one is the one!”  Sure enough, the huge chinook tipped the scale at just over 30 lbs.  Congratulations Mary!

June 30 at Sund's Lodge and all is well!

gages! We were blessed with one of the best days of the summer today with calm seas and mostly sunny skies.  The fishing remained great with chinooks, a few coho, and a few fish stories of the hogs that got away.  Congratulations to Brian Kelly who joined the Sund’s Tyee Club with this dandy 33 lbr caught with Captain Spenser.  The bad part is that dad Mike had an even bigger fish on the line later that got away.  A truly fantastic day on the Inside Passage!
