One group left today and NAILED the big fish….over 15 chinooks caught in a few hours fishing.  Rick Cromer went big with a 35 lbr but lots of other BIG fish were taken as well as limits of sockeye.

Then in the afternoon, we have had some family and friends from around North America roll in and get into some nice sockeye fishing.  Team Naubert got 17 fish with 13 sockeyes…wow.  Nice work guys!  It is shaping up to be a great trip!

Smiles, sockeye and more on Beach Bistro Day

Friday, August 20th, 2010

More of the same today at Sund’s Lodge.  Chinook fishing slowed down today but most guests stayed busy on the occiasional chinook and ample sockeye run.  At this point we’re officially calling it the best sockeye fishing we’ve seen in 20 years.  Just incredible!  The guests had a great beach bistro in the islands hosted by Chef Paul.  Big fish of the day honors went to Maryanne with this dandy 29 lbr!  We finished the day with a slideshow of images from a great 4 days at Sund’s Lodge.  Fun fun fun!

Sockeye, Sockeye, Sockeye

Another great day out on the water;  the forecasted wind stayed down and the sun even  poked through the clouds in the afternoon.

We at Sund’s Lodge are excited to be fishing year four in the four year cycle of the Adam’s River sockeye run.   Even with  chinook salmon and halibut as the primary target species’, almost everyone caught at least a couple of the elusive and highly coveted  sockeye salmon to round off their daily catch, and many of our guest even limited out!

Rick took big fish honors with his beauty 19 lb. chinook, beating Herb’s big chinook by only an ounce in the official weigh-off!

Aye Carumba, another beautiful day in paradise!

A small group of guests from all around the world arrived this afternoon and started off the week with a lovely afternoon of fishing and catching.  Peter took big chinook honors with his nice twenty pounder, and many other nice salmon were caught as well.   Good times were had by all!

Peter and his guide Mike show off his big one!

Another great day out on the water here at Sund’s Lodge!  The chinook fishery remains strong, sockeye and pinks are plentiful, and we’re releasing lots of big coho as well!   To top it off, Henry caught a 41 pound chinook this afternoon, claiming the record chinook title for summer 2010 and becoming a member of the Sund’s Lodge Tyee club!

HOT @ Sund’s Lodge!

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

Sat Aug 14 was the hottest day of the year for weather and probably fishing too!  It was insane out there..with daytime temps well into the 80′s (F) and over 25 degrees Celsius.  And the fishing was HOTTER!  The D Jac Fishing Invitational guys nailed em!

Ray Lees got the biggest fish of the day at 29 lbs, runner up was Jim Turner’s 28. Some huge 48 and 49 lb halis were caught.  Not to be outdone was Capt Roland’s boat, making a comeback tour at Sund’s Lodge for 2 days only, as they caught a record 5 sockeye.  AWESOME DAY!!!

Day 1 of the Jacobson Fishing Invitational

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

The boys from OKC rolled in this afternoon to absolutely stunning weather.  Fishing was a bit slow this afternoon but spirits were still high as seas were flat and the air was warm.  A few sockeyes were taken as well as a sprinkling of chinook.  Big fish of the day honors went to Sir Isaac Jacobson with this dandy 25 lbr caught with Capt. Millar.

Big congrats go to Caleb Miller, who caught this almost 30 lb halibut…with a broken arm!  WOW!  Way to go Caleb!  A great day for all!

A windy day requires patience

Friday, August 13th, 2010

The wind started before dawn and didn’t stop until the boats were in this evening.  Lunch, which was supposed to be Burger Boat day #2 as this is a 5 day trip, ended up back at the lodge.  The guests were unflappable and stayed hard at work all day for the fish and most were rewarded with some good fish.  Anne Krum got the biggest fish of the trip, this dandy 32 lbr, with Captain Sammy who is finishing this last trip before taking a “real job” back in the city.  We’ll miss you Sam.

All the other guests had a great day and tonight was simply a gorgeous night as Mother Nature took a breather from the windstorm (sorry for the pun).  Until tomorrow….

Fish are harder to come by on this Bistro Day- except for Team Johnston!

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

We had a great beach lunch in the islands and all the boats had varying degrees of luck with some nice fish coming in.  Team Johnston finally got on the fish board in a big way with Capt. Blake, who guided the team into 7 Chinooks with even a couple nice sockeyes mixed in.  Big fish of the day went once again to Glenn.  Italo and the Canadian Sportfishing TV crew with Capt. Dudds released some nice springs, the biggest being in the high 20′s.  Said cameraman Keith, “we got some great footage!”  For sure it was another nice day on the water.  Around midnight the wind started to blow so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that conditions are fish-able today!
