A Great Finish To Our 2013 Season!

Hello again to all who read these musings on fishing and other exciting Sund’s Lodge happenings by me, Millartime.

We have had a fantastic group of people in from Minnesota, BC, and Washington over the past week. Also great was the weather again this week. The marine mammals were out in full force everywhere, too. I was netting a herring ball, and we had just drifted 20ft. away from the ball, when a humpback came up beside us and ate the rest of the herring in several lunges. It was awesome to witness so close! Humpbacks were breaching and tail slapping everywhere this week as well, including a multiple breach ‘a distance’ from Big Jim’s boat in Mitchell Bay. Orcas were circling Lizard Point while we were on the beach there for our Bistro, and porpoise, sea lions, and seals were everywhere during the week!

Our 5 day group for August 5th thru 9th was a great success.

Hey everyone, it’s Millartime here, again, with a weekly trip report. A mixed group of family and friends were in for 5 days. Tom and Kathi Fisher joined us on their first trip here, as did Jeremy Teasell and his son, Ryan. Ron Bernal brought his daughter, Katherine, on their 7th trip here to Sund`s! They brought their friends, Mark and Maddie Sawyer with them. The Parkis and Shempp father-son crew came for their first trip here, and the Birchtenbrieter`s were back from Germany for another year! Last but definitely not least, was Don Campbell and four of his friends from Fort MacMurray, Alberta. They all came to enjoy what Sund’s has to offer which includes: great food and fishing, and a fun and capable staff that will go out of their way to make you enjoy your stay here!

Flat Seas and Flatt-ies!

Beautiful weather was the theme when our guests came in on Tuesday. Many of our guests are returnees here at the lodge. Some, like the Naubert’s, have been coming for many years. Fishing was slow the first day, but a noteworthy fish was John Agee’s halibut, which was the season’s largest. Taylor had him and friend, Bob Fankhauser, and Bob’s daughter, Emily Fankhauser, on board. He took them to his favourite new hali hole that he found earlier this year. Fighting through swirly tides, John managed to get his herring down to the sweet spot and the 126cm halibut took the bait. When John pulled it up beside the boat, Taylor tried and tried to get a measurement on the flatfish, and after several measurements, he deemed it to be legal, and he harpooned the beast. It was exactly legal, and weighed in at 68lbs! A few other halibut were caught, including an 18lber brought in by Ed Thomson on my (Millar’s) boat, and a couple of “nice eaters”.

Trip comes to a close with some great fishing!

Hey it`s Millartime here, again. Day 3 of our mixed group saw buddies Hal Carper and Benny Maresca depart on a floatplane in the afternoon. We enjoyed having these great guys here, and look forward to seeing them again next year. They enjoyed the beach bistro with everyone else and some halibut fishing before taking off. The rest of the group stayed on and fished salmon and halibut, but blustery winds made it a bit challenging later in the day.

Great weather arrived with our new guests yesterday!

After a nice first afternoon at Sund’s  yesterday, our guests enjoyed the finest day of the season today! Sunny and calm, and with a good number of fish around, it made for a lovely day! Old friends, Jack and Cyndi Sparacio brought one of our guests back, after over 20 years! Jack and Victor Reddick used to come to Sund’s Lodge back in the 80’s and early 90’s together, and it was great to have Victor back again! Also returning after 2 years were the Spiegel family and their friends, Greg and Stephen Crate,  who hail from Ontario and Florida. Benny Maresca and Hal Carper returned again, and we were glad to have them back. Bill and Lee Trotter returned, and this time they drug along their friends, Tom Turner, and Dennis Miller. Dennis Miller may not be the comedian that you may have heard of, but in my opinion he is the funnier of the two! Put ’em all together, and throw in some great fishing and weather, and you have the makings for an awesome weekend at Sund’s! Here are a few pictures from the first 2 days.
