Doug's mighty 33

Doug's mighty 33

Congratulations to Doug on his 33 lb. tyee caught at the Slide today.  It is a huge fish and enters him into the exclusive Sund’s Lodge tyee club.  It was another fabulous day of fishing, with over half the guests limiting on chinooks and coho today.  The ladies boat went out and caught 4 chinook over 20 pounds to show the men who was the best.

In the afternoon all Elizabeth wanted was a nice halibut.  The Eminhizers and Goerlitz’s went out with Capt. Geoff and caught 2 big halis- this one being 37 pounds and the big halibut of the trip.  A fabulous day for all!

Marcus with his birthday haul
Marcus with his birthday haul

It was a rocking evening around Sund’s Lodge last night as Marcus Eminhizer celebrated his birthday in style with catching the biggest salmon and biggest halibut of the day.  Fishing cooled for several boats but the Eminhizer’s nailed a bunch of fish with Capt. Jim Duddridge and the Bonnells and Edwards also had a great day with Capt. Blake.  In fact, Blake did so well he’s got the ladies boat going out today.  Come back for a report on how the ladies did in the competition against the men!  On the weather front, daytime temps have hit in the 80’s for several afternoons straight- this is some of the warmest weather we’ve seen in a long time!  It is great!

Steve's fish of the day!

Steve's fish of the day!

Our friends from CalPortland arrived today with couples from around the west coast.  The boats loaded up on small pinks and the smoker is rolling today!  It is the first smoker batch of the season so lets hope that continues.  Steve Clements got the group’s lone chinook with this nice teener caught at Cracroft.
The most exciting event of the day was a seal grabbing a pink salmon behind Geoff’s boat (picture below) and then taking off on a wild chase through the kelp.  After a big fight, Geoff was quite excited to get his flasher and anchovie head back and also retrieve 1/2 of a pink salmon!

Gilman family with limits of chinooks

Gilman family with limits of chinooks

The power of positive thinking for Matt's big one!
The power of positive thinking for Matt’s big one!

The pictures say it all: warm weather, flat seas, big smiles, and lots of fish.  Day 4 of the 5 day group had us out fishing all day in some of the finest conditions of the summer and working towards limits on coho, chinooks and halibut.  Matt worked the power of positive thinking and limited out on chinooks by 7 am.  His boat?  They were limited before 9 am on chinooks.  The fishing and weather have been simply fantastic- let’s hope this can hold!  It has been one fun ride so far.

group-shot-on-beach

Another gloriously sunny day with friends from Montana, California, and Texas.  Fishing for chinooks slowed down a bit today but lots of other nice fish brought in.  Big fish of the day was caught by Elaine, who at 4 months pregnant, had the luck of her baby with her all day.  She limited out on chinooks and then won the dice game at night!  Roy Chacon and son in law Jeremy also had a great day with Capt. Scott with a box full of salmon and a limit on halibut.  Happy guests all around!
